 WiFi HotSpot Gateway

WiFi has proliferated over recent years, and it is now common to find it in almost any gathering place. Unfortunately, the basic off-the-shelf WiFi router that most Hotspot providers employ cannot prevent unauthorized use. While the majority of this usage is safe, the Hotspot provider can be held liable for illegal activity. This can be prevented with some level of authorization - Either by individual user registration and authentication (best), or single-password security that can, at minimum, prevent anonymous theft of service.

Wireless Village, as a Wireless Internet Service Provider, engineered a highly secure and reliable system to serve this purpose on its own metro-scale networks. In the process we realized it was possible to simplify this system into a low-cost safety net for small Hotspot providers!

WVHotSpot Gateway

Enables easy user authentication and accounting in public, private, ired or wireless networks. The WV HotSpot technology allows businesses to offer Internet access to customers, while applying certain Internet use rules and limitations. It is very convenient for Internet cafes, hotels, airports, restaurants, schools and universities.

* User authentication, or single-password security
* Customized HTML pages for login screen, branded by your organization
* Easy client administration using RADIUS/local user database.
* Can be used with any a standalone AP
* Bandwidth shaping
* Quota (session-timeout, downloaded/uploaded traffic limit)
* DHCP server assigned IP addresses
* Radius Accounting
* Real-time user status information

To log in, users may use almost any web browser, so they are not required to install additional software. The gateway is accounting for the uptime and amount of traffic each of its clients have used, and also can send this information to a RADIUS server. The HotSpot system may limit each particular user's bitrate, total amount of traffic, uptime and other parameters. The HotSpot system is targeted to provide authentication within a local network (to access the internet), but may also be used to authorize access from outer networks to access local resources. A Walled Garden feature, makes it possible to allow users to access some web pages (such as your organization's) without the need of prior authentication.
